Balfour Beatty Approval for VUE's HFR Camera System

We’re proud to announce a major milestone for VUE: our Human Form Recognition (HFR) Camera System has been officially approved for use across Balfour Beatty construction sites.

This approval follows a rigorous assessment by Balfour Beatty’s New Product Approval Working Group and reinforces the strength, reliability, and safety-first design of our technology.

A Strong Validation of Safety and Performance

To achieve approval, our HFR system underwent a comprehensive review process, including independent MIRA testing, alongside detailed technical validation and documentation.

A key step in this journey was securing CE marking, demonstrating full compliance with strict regulatory standards.

From installation guidance through to maintenance protocols, every aspect of the system has been carefully developed to ensure it performs reliably in demanding, real-world site environments.

Introducing Our Platform Built for Construction Users

Alongside this approval, we’re also launching our new construction-focused software platform, designed to turn HFR data into actionable safety insights.

The platform brings everything into one place, enabling site teams to:

  • - Review HFR-triggered events alongside video footage
  • - Analyse alert frequency and severity
  • - Identify trends and recurring risks across sites
  • - Download footage quickly for investigations
  • - Monitor device health in real time
  • - Integrate seamlessly with third-party systems

By combining alerts, footage, and machine data, the platform supports a more proactive, data-driven approach to site safety.

  • Addressing a Critical Industry Challenge

Construction sites remain high-risk environments—particularly where plant machinery operates close to ground workers.

Telehandlers, for example, are known for their visibility challenges and blind spots, making them a key area of concern.

Our HFR technology is designed to tackle this head-on. Using advanced machine learning, the system:

  • Detects human presence around machinery in real time - Issues immediate visual and audible alerts to operators - Helps reduce near misses before they become incidents

This creates an additional layer of protection that enhances existing safety measures on site.

Proven on Live Projects

The technology is already delivering results on active Balfour Beatty projects.

Moortown Plant Limited has been using VUE’s HFR systems for several months. Their Plant Manager, Mark Petts, shared:

"VUE have been supplying us with their human form recognition systems for several months now. We chose VUE as their system is fully compliant with our clients’ standards, and because they put a lot of thought into their fitting process. They are also competitively priced and even when minor issues occur, the VUE team provide quick resolutions and support.”

A Milestone for VUE

This approval marks an important step forward for VUE, strengthening the credibility of our HFR system and supporting its adoption across major construction projects.

As Glen Mullins, Managing Director at VUE, explains:

“Achieving Balfour Beatty approval is a significant milestone for VUE and a strong validation of the work that has gone into developing our HFR Camera System. Launching our new construction-focused software platform alongside this approval allows site teams to go beyond alerts—using real-world footage and data to understand risk, reduce near misses, and make lasting improvements to site safety.”

Driving Safer Construction Sites

At VUE, our mission is simple: help make worksites safer through intelligent technology. With Balfour Beatty approval and the rollout of our latest platform, we’re continuing to support contractors in protecting workers, reducing risk, and improving safety outcomes across every site.

An online platform optimised for fast alert review and impactful near-miss analysis, built specifically for operators of plant machinery looking to proactively improve site safety.
