Persimmon Homes Deploys VUE's HFR AI Technology to Enhance On-Site Safety

Persimmon Homes is one of the UK's leading housebuilders, operating from 29 regional offices across the country under the brands Persimmon Homes, Charles Church, and Westbury Partnerships. With 4,731 employees and responsibility for nearly 80,000 supply chain jobs, the York-headquartered company delivered 10,664 homes in 2024 while maintaining a 96% customer satisfaction score. Safety is fundamental to Persimmon's operations, not only for its workforce but for the communities in which it builds. The company's ambition to be trusted to deliver five-star homes consistently extends to every aspect of its business, including the protection of people working on active construction sites.

The Challenge

Construction sites present inherent risks, particularly where heavy plant machinery operates alongside ground workers in dynamic, fast-moving environments. Telehandlers and other mobile plant equipment create significant blind spots, and even experienced operators can struggle to maintain full situational awareness when manoeuvring in congested areas. From this, Persimmon Homes recognised the need for a proactive, technology-led solution to reduce the risk of collisions and fatalities involving plant machinery and site personnel.

The Solution

In July 2025, Persimmon Homes partnered with VUE to deploy Human Form Recognition (HFR) AI camera kits across its national fleet of JCB and Manitou telehandlers. HFR technology uses artificial intelligence to detect human forms in real time around moving machinery, providing visual and audible alerts to operators when personnel enter defined danger zones. This enables immediate intervention, helping to prevent incidents before they occur.

The rollout, nearing completion in December 2025, will see 180 HFR camera kits fitted across 160 sites spanning 30 regions throughout England, Scotland, and Wales. VUE worked closely with Persimmon's regional teams, communicating directly with individual sites to ensure seamless installation, operator training, and full understanding of the system's capabilities. The deployment was supported by VUEhub, VUE's telematics platform, which provides Persimmon with centralised visibility of system performance, alert data, and ongoing maintenance support.

The Results

Since implementation each alert logged by the system has shown a potential near-miss or collision that was flagged to the operator in real time, enabling immediate corrective action and demonstrably reducing risk across operations. Beyond the data, the impact on operator behaviour and site culture has been significant. Machine operators report heightened awareness of their surroundings, while ground workers have greater confidence working near plant equipment, knowing an additional layer of protection is in place.

The technology has reinforced Persimmon's commitment to continuous improvement in health and safety, providing tangible evidence of investment in protecting its workforce. The system's ability to capture and review alert data through VUEhub also supports post-incident learning and proactive risk management across the business.

A spokesperson from Persimmon Homes stated:

“The rollout of VUE's HFR technology has been prompt, efficient, and well-coordinated across our national operations. The system is already driving safer behaviours on site and giving our teams the tools they need to work more confidently around plant machinery. It's a clear demonstration of our commitment to protecting our people."

VUE's partnership with Persimmon Homes demonstrates the critical role that AI-enabled safety technology plays in modern construction operations. By deploying HFR camera kits across its fleet, Persimmon has taken a proactive step to reduce risk, improve operator awareness, and foster a stronger safety culture across its sites.

The system will continue to provide real-time protection and valuable safety insights, reinforcing VUE's position as a trusted partner in delivering innovative solutions for the construction, logistics, and transport industries.
