How VUEhub's Auditing Features Support GDPR Compliance and Accountability

As organisations manage increasing volumes of user activity, vehicle data, and video footage, maintaining control over who accesses information has never been more important.

People across an organisation rely on access to critical operational data every day, from fleet managers reviewing footage to administrators managing user accounts. However, access alone is no longer enough. Organisations also need visibility into who is accessing information, what actions are being taken, and whether appropriate controls are in place.

That's why VUE continues to invest in greater visibility and accountability across VUEhub. Building on the existing Customer Activity Auditing feature, VUE has introduced the new Footage Audit Log, giving organisations even greater oversight of how users interact with VUEhub and how footage is accessed and managed.

Greater Visibility Through Auditing

Maintaining visibility over how users interact with systems and data is essential for effective governance. VUEhub's auditing capabilities have been designed to provide that visibility, helping administrators understand platform activity, monitor footage access and investigate events with confidence.

Customer Activity Auditing

Introduced earlier this year, Customer Activity Auditing gives Client Administrators greater visibility into how users interact with VUEhub. Accessible within the Manage Users section, the feature records user logins and service interactions, creating a searchable audit trail of platform activity.

The feature allows administrators to review summary activity metrics, focus on specific users or time periods, and access up to two years of historical records. When deeper analysis is required, activity data can also be exported to CSV for reporting and further investigation.

This helps organisations better understand how VUEhub is being used, identify inactive accounts, investigate unusual activity and maintain greater control over user access.

Footage Audit Log

Building on the foundations of Customer Activity Auditing, VUEhub's new Footage Audit Log feature extends auditing capabilities even further, providing organisations with a dedicated audit trail for footage-related activity. Available as an additional tab within the User Activity Audit Log when managing users in VUEhub, it enables administrators to audit both platform activity and footage interactions from a single place.

The audit log records when footage is requested, viewed, uploaded to VUEcloud or deleted, providing a clear history of how video evidence is being handled within the platform.

Advanced filtering and keyword search capabilities make it easy to pinpoint the exact activity you're looking for, whether that's a specific user, vehicle registration, event or date. Activity records can also be exported to CSV, providing a simple way to support investigations and reporting requirements.

By creating a transparent record of footage activity, organisations gain greater confidence in how video evidence is accessed, shared and managed. Whether reviewing a specific incident or carrying out routine governance checks, Footage Audit Log provides a clear and accessible history of footage interactions across the platform.

A More Complete Audit Trail

Customer Activity Auditing provides oversight of user behaviour across the platform, while the new Footage Audit Log delivers detailed visibility into footage access and management.

As VUE Data Protection Officer Steve English explains, "effective data protection is not just about controlling access to information. Organisations also need visibility into how that access is being used and confidence that their safeguards are working as intended."

By helping organisations understand how VUEhub is being used and how footage is being handled, these features support day-to-day governance, investigations and internal reviews.

Steve also emphasises that "organisations need more than strong access controls. They also need audit trails that demonstrate information is being accessed appropriately and that data protection measures are working effectively."

For organisations using vehicle cameras and video footage, GDPR is about more than securing data. Organisations must also be able to demonstrate who has access to information and how that information is being used
