Read MoreSince 2008, VUE has partnered with some of the busiest fleets in the UK: Ambulance services.
Fast forward to 2025, and we now support over 85% of UK Ambulance Trusts with advanced camera and telematics solutions, providing CCTV systems for Ambulances throughout the UK.
In England alone, around 75% of 999 ambulance calls result in a face-to-face response. Category 1 incidents—those that are life-threatening—require an average response time of just eight minutes. With approximately 26,721 999 calls every day, the demand on ambulance fleets is constant and intense.
Ambulances need to stay on the road with minimal downtime. Operating in high-pressure, high-risk environments, emergency crews must navigate congested roads, respond at speed, and adapt to unpredictable situations. In such conditions, fleet managers rely on accurate, always-available video and telematics data to protect staff, improve driver performance, and defend against liability—without compromising emergency response times.
VUE’s systems combine 360° cameras with integrated telematics and CANbus data to provide complete visibility and operational insight. They offer up to 2TB of storage within the DVR so that trusts can access a hard copy of footage recorded weeks ago as evidence or for review.
The cameras themselves record in high definition. The physically robust Microdome cameras with their protective casing customised for blue light fleets, are fitted to the sides and interior for wide angle recording.
Jake Murray from North East Ambulance Service states; "We use the 4 and 8 channel DVRs to accommodate the dome cameras both external and internal to the vehicle, as well as an IR rear camera and reverse camera - these are for both staff and patient safety, and to be reviewed in the event of an accident and/or fatality."
A 7” monitor displays to the driver clear visuals from around and inside the Ambulance. A panic button is also included for a driver or paramedic to press to trigger the system to send a recording to the platform for review – especially useful if an incident occurs around an Ambulance when the ignition is off.
The nature of situations Ambulances are involved in are often extreme and sometimes criminal, and we regularly find that our Ambulance fleets require footage as evidence for the Police. The reliability of the CCTV systems for Ambulances is therefore paramount, and is one of the main reasons the Trusts choose VUE as their vehicle CCTV provider and partner.
It’s no surprise that our Ambulance and other Blue Light fleets are by far the largest users of our footage services; they use the most data and download the most recordings.
With our network agnostic 4G sims, the VUE solution allows the Trusts to download unlimited amounts of footage to the VUEhub platform for review. When footage is needed – it’s needed, which is why there are no limitations placed on how often our blue light (or commercial) fleets can request footage to download. If a large amount of footage is needed that may take a while to download i.e. an hour, then our Support teams are on hand to assist and ensure footage is received efficiently.
Glen Mullins, Managing Director at VUE stated, “For our blue light fleets, being able to download and access footage is mission critical. It’s our job to make sure that when it’s needed; we can get it for them as quickly as possible.”
As of July 2025, our blue light fleets experience a 99.98% footage download success rate. This consistency and reliability of access to footage is one of the many reasons why Ambulance fleets, Police fleets, and Fire and Rescue Fleets choose to work with VUE. They know the importance of reliability when it comes to CCTV systems for Ambulances, and that when footage is needed, VUE have the solution to reliably deliver.
John Evans, Head of Software at VUE commented, “A lot of work has gone in to ensuring all of our customers, not just blue light, can download footage quickly and reliably. We’re extremely proud of the service we offer our customers, and believe it’s what sets us apart from other providers of vehicle CCTV.”
With the VUEcloud platform, footage and data can be accessed, reviewed, and securely shared from anywhere, streamlining evidence management for fleet teams and ensuring efficient sharing of footage with relevant parties i.e. the Police.
Our Ambulance fleets also require a telematics system that helps them understand their vehicle utilisation and data, particularly in the event of an incident.
Using the Trip Replay tile, our Ambulance customers can easily differentiate between blue light and non-blue light trips, and by integrating with the vehicle’s CAN device, can also overlay trips with data such as when the sirens were switched on etc.
This allows for easy analysis of driver behaviour i.e. an instance of speeding not on a blue-light trip.
By integrating with the vehicle’s CAN device, Trusts can also look at Fuel Usage and Energy Usage (for EV vehicles) – especially useful if transitioning to an electric fleet, and monitoring carbon emissions.
At VUE, we believe that we’re partners, not just suppliers.
We embed this mentality through everything we do, and for all of our customers our support extends beyond the purchasing of kit.
Jake Murray from NEAS continues;
"From VUE the support thus far has been fantastic, often we may need support for hardware and software; any requests sent to VUE have been answered quickly and detailed answers fed back to us."
With in-house engineers stationed throughout the UK and regularly audited (both internally and by a third-party), we’re there for our Ambulance Fleets when they need us. Our Support teams are all based out of our Manchester-based office, and if a hardware fault is identified, remote fixes are provided within three working hours.
If an engineer visit is required, we endeavour to offer a date in at least 5 days from when a fault is identified.
Chris Taylor, Head of Operations at VUE comments, “It’s about quality really. We want to provide quality products, quality service, and quality support – and that’s the basis of everything we do. This mentality means that we continually strive for improvement, and will always go the extra mile for our customers.”
The Live Track platform offers Live fault detection on all devices, indicating whether there is an issue on either the camera, DVR, or storage. This allows our blue light fleets to proactively address faults so that if footage is needed; they know it’ll be available.
Our partnerships with Ambulance Trusts don’t stop once systems are installed. We work closely with our customers to continually enhance our products, from developing new integrations and functionality to building tailored dashboards that match their specific operational needs.
Whether it’s through ongoing R&D or day-to-day support, we’re committed to helping our blue light customers get the most from their systems—now and into the future.
