VUE Works with UK Forks and Dandara to Improve Site Safety Using HFR

Since 2024, VUE Group have been working with Telehandler and Roto Hire Specialists; UK Forks. VUE are UK Fork’s partner of choice when it comes to fitting HFR (Human Form Recognition) systems to their machines.

Using innovative AI technology, the HFR cameras detect when a human is an area of danger around a machine when it is in operation. The HFRS then alerts the operator in-cab, and warns people externally too.

Glen Mullins, Managing Director of VUE said of the partnership, “Our partnership with UK Forks is one founded on a shared drive to significantly improve safety on sites. With our combined knowledge and industry experience, I’m confident that between us we’ve developed an HFRS that truly benefits our customers and ultimately saves lives.”

A solution that works

Award-winning developer, Dandara, hire 14m JCB telehandlers from UK Forks to move materials around their UK sites. Though they already had extensive safety protocols in place to ensure safe movement of workers around sites, they wanted to reduce the risk of an incident even more through proactive AI technology.

They started trialling various technologies and human detection systems on a variety of sites, eventually settling on VUE’s HFR system.

As the HFRS can differentiate between humans and static objects such as bricks or scaffolding, excessive alerting is prevented for further accuracy and operator usability.

When an operator hears an alarm, they know they need to take action.

Chris Ball, Dandara’s head of health, safety and environmental, said: “We chose UK Forks as they had the ability to provide the human detection solution we needed and to implement that solution across our active fleet of telehandlers on all our sites throughout the UK.”

And the impact of the cameras is already being seen across sites with Chris confirming; “Operators have reported a significant positive shift in on-site behaviour… The external audible alerts are proving to be beneficial in changing people’s behaviours and habits around operational telehandlers. We are also utilising the integrated telematics to improve fleet efficiency and reduce risk.”

UK Forks’ operations director Simon Brook said: “We are delighted to have played a part in helping Dandara achieve an even higher level of health and safety across their sites through the introduction and application of this new, innovative and exciting technological solution to site safety.
