On 18th September, we were proud to host an industry event in collaboration with our partners Weightmans and Cyxcel, a Weightmans business, exploring some of the most important issues facing the telematics and fleet industry today.
The event focused on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping video telematics, cyber security, best practices for safeguarding personal data and the critical importance of data protection compliance due to ongoing threats of cyber-attacks.
Experts Share Insights on Data Privacy and Cyber Security
We were joined by speakers who shared their knowledge and perspectives on the future of telematics, data privacy and fleet security:
The day opened with a welcome speech from Thomas Barrett, who introduced the agenda and set the stage for a series of engaging and informative discussions.
Breach Preparedness
The first session, delivered by Dan Giannasi and Steve Sandford, explored how organisations can strengthen their cyber security specifically, drawing on real-world case studies. The importance of incident response planning, proactive defence strategies, and understanding how previous breaches can inform more resilient systems were highlighted during this presentation. Specifically, how past cases of cyber security attacks can teach us to be better prepared for potential risks through placing proactive measures in place, securing ourselves against them.
The Role of AI in Video Telematics and Data Security
In the second presentation, Glen Mullins, Managing Director of VUE, focused on the rapidly growing role of artificial intelligence in video telematics. His talk examined how AI is being used to improve fleet safety, driver behaviour monitoring and real-time decision-making.
However, Glen also emphasised the ethical considerations, regulatory challenges and risks associated with deploying AI, stressing the need for robust data security measures to ensure that all collected and stored information is safe, compliant and responsibly managed – avoiding all risks of potential data breach threats.
Panel Discussion: Where Telematics, AI, and Data Privacy Meet
The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring Thomas Barrett, Steve English, Ngaire Guzzetti, and Dan Giannasi. The panel answered audience questions and explored how telematics, AI technologies and data protection regulations are increasingly interconnected.
A key takeaway was the importance of adopting an integrated approach, one that combines innovative video telematics solutions with strong data governance practices and cyber security strategies to support fleets.
We would like to thank all our speakers and attendees for contributing to a successful event, and to everyone involved in making it happen. The discussions highlighted a very clear message: as technology evolves, so do cyber threats. We must deploy proactive measures to ensure safety of all our data as it could have paralysing consequences, no matter the industry you operate in.
